The Opportunity

As a Data Engineer at Nascent, you would join a hedge-fund like environment, leveraging your skills to create impactful data solutions in a fast-moving and flexible environment. You will own the whole data pipeline that feeds into our trading models, from ingestion to processing, and work closely with Portfolio Managers to ensure adequate data storage and cleanliness. You'll drive critical projects in the team by developing versatile tools for researchers to access data in various formats.

This role leverages a unique skillset, requiring a blend of technical expertise, effective collaboration skills, and an understanding and appreciation of financial markets, aligning your efforts with buy-side interests. This is a high-impact role, designed to advance the strategies that make our team successful.

This role is ideally based in Montreal, Canada with some flexibility for remote. For the right candidate, we're happy to support relocation.

Experience Required

  • Ideally 3-8 years of experience in a Data Engineering role, handling large, complex sets of data, in a lean team and high-stakes environment
  • Experience building and maintaining data pipelines in order to utilize the data pipeline to provide actionable insights for the trading team
  • Ability to automate data collection from many different sources (websocket, REST, S3, etc…)
  • Ability to handle reasonably large quantities of data (>10TB), ideally handling time-series data
  • Ability to build and maintain an API for the researchers to query the data.
  • Demonstrated abilities in one of the Python data frame libraries (Pandas|Polars)
  • An aptitude and understanding of financial markets and/or trading environments
  • Bonus if you have experience working with data from Bloomberg, LSEG/Refinitiv/Reuters, FactSet
